Composite
A tooth coloured resin bonded into the cavity and shaped to the tooth. It is placed in one visit and the shade is matched to the teeth beside it, so a filling at the front is not the first thing anyone sees.
Glass ionomer
A material that bonds chemically to the tooth and releases fluoride. It suits some sites better than composite does, particularly near the gumline and in children's teeth.
Temporary work
A temporary restoration holds a tooth while something else is decided or waited for, and re-cementation puts back a crown or an inlay that has come loose. Both are proper treatments with a purpose, not a way of putting a decision off.
